Frequently Asked Questions
General Information

You can set an appointment with me for a consultation via the “contact us” page or email me at akordal@insightmentalhealthsolutionsllc.com
-
Absolutely! Even though I specialize working with young girls and women, I do also see male clients for different reasons. My focus just happens to be ADHD and how it presents in young girls and women.
-
There are only a couple of reasons a therapist breaks confidentiality and they all have to do with safety. Otherwise, everything you say in therapy stays between us.
-
That depends! Sometimes I see clients for years and sometimes for only a few sessions. Therapy is always tailored to you and your needs.
-
Typical sessions are around 55 minutes but I do occasionally see individuals for 30 or 45 minutes as well. I typically operate on a biweekly schedule with most clients but there are clients I see every week or once a month. Again, it depends on what your needs are!
-
The consultation is about 15 minutes where we briefly discuss your needs. This gives both of us an idea of whether we feel we would be a good fit for each other, therapeutically.

Yes. My practice focuses on ADHD in girls and women. I'm an ADHD–Certified Clinical Services Provider, and most of my work centers on executive function, emotional regulation and the ways ADHD shows up differently in women and girls.
-
Yes. Many of my clients were diagnosed in their 20s, 30s or later. We work on understanding what the diagnosis explains about your past, reducing shame, and building systems that fit how your brain works.
-
I see girls ages 5 and up, teens and adult women. For children and teens, I work closely with parents too.
-
Executive functions are the brain's self-management skills: working memory, inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility, task initiation, planning and organization, time management, emotional regulation and metacognition. ADHD affects these skills, and therapy builds practical strategies for each.
-
LCSWs can diagnose ADHD but I always ask clients to get a second opinion from another mental health professional such as a psychiatrist or nurse practitioner if they are looking for medication management.
-
Yes. I run an 8-week ADHD support group for women that combines skills, community and growth.
